Marlin’s shine in the Tetley’s Challenge Cup

Milford Marlins produced a great account of themselves in the third round of the Tetley’s Challenge Cup. After drawing the Barrow Raiders, the community club made arrangements to play their home game at the Headingley Carnegie stadium as offered to them by Leeds Rhinos’ Chairman Gary Hetherington.

In what was a truly memorable event, support rained in from the Leeds Rugby Foundation, the Headingley staff and the 1000 supporters that turned up to watch the Marlins try to put together a giant killing performance. However, after producing a valiant effort, the Marlins were defeated 18-10 by the travelling Barrow Raiders.

Milford never gave up and the occasion must go down in the clubs history as one of the finest games they have played. Milford Marlins are very much part of the Leeds Rugby Foundation’s club ambassador scheme and are active in the events that are organised by the LRF. The Marlins run teams at most age groups throughout their organisation and have produced professional players such as Ryan Bailey. This makes them integral to our 3 year development plan for Rugby League in the city and a great advert for the game of Rugby League. The LRF would also like to congratulate East Leeds who also achieved third round status in the Challenge Cup playing the Sheffield Eagles; this is another example of the strength of the community clubs in our city.
