LRF TV: Tryzone Young Dad’s programme goes from strength to strength

Tryzone’s Young Dads Programme has proved a big hit this term with the Leeds Rugby Foundation truly making a huge difference to many young dad’s lives.

Tryzone, based in the purpose built Learning Centre of Headingley Carnegie Stadium, the home of the Leeds Rhinos, is a hugely promising three year programme of education projects with young people and families from all over Leeds ran by Leeds Rugby Foundation.

It is funded by the Big Lottery who along with Tryzone, identified the Young Dads programme as a necessity in the city. Tryzone as a whole works with specific young people and their families who need some extra support in order to make a positive difference to their lives.

The successful project is run by Nigel Wood, Tryzone's Education Programme Manager, along with Janet Sylvester, Kathryn Bizley and Jaci Hawkins who aid the scheme as part of the Leeds Rugby Foundation team.

One of Tryzone’s various activities includes the Young Dad’s programme which covers a number of topics including:

  • Barriers to being a dad
  • Role of a dad and life changes
  • Birth of a baby and what will parenting bring
  • Healthy Relationships
  • Co-Delivering with specialist partnerships
  • Player involvement and first-hand experience of being a father

Janet Sylvester of Tryzone said: “The project has been a huge success. We are therefore developing this project and will be rolling it out further from September for Young Dads aged 16+.”
