The prestigious and highly anticipated 18th annual Leeds Sports Awards are to be held on Thursday 27th May and for the very first time they will be broadcast live on Leeds TV. This means that sports fans across the city, and beyond, can join in the celebrations.

A highlight in the Yorkshire sporting calendar, this year’s awards will celebrate the sporting achievements of those in the city during 2020 and acknowledge the community endeavours of so many.

Hosted by Tanya Arnold, the live awards show will highlight those who have championed sport during 2020, which was obviously a challenging year for everyone involved in sport at all levels.

Despite difficult circumstances there is much to celebrate, such as the impressive sporting performances from the city’s professional teams and athletes.

Every bit as important, the awards will recognise and honour the incredible individuals and organisations across Leeds who kept communities fit, healthy and active during 2020. With this in mind, there are two new awards for those that championed community spirit. These are the Inspirational Community Champion(s) Award for both under and over 18’s.

Everyone can nominate their favourite sporting stars and teams as well as local unsung heroes of 2020, the 18th Leeds Sports Awards is going to be an event that unites the city like never before. The closing date for nomination entries is Sunday 2nd May

Sally Griffiths Vice Chair of Sport Leeds said: “‘Sport Leeds is delighted to bring the annual Sports Awards to the city after such a challenging year for many in our sporting communities.

“With a different look and feel this year, the event is hoping to celebrate the amazing contributions individuals and groups have made during the pandemic, to keep us active. This has only been possible with the incredible generosity from our sponsors and partners, thank you to each of them and Banana Kick for helping to make this possible.”

The winners are to be chosen by a distinguished panel of judges who represent sports across the city with the winners announced live on the night.

The Leeds Sports Awards, organised by Sport Leeds, wouldn’t be possible without the kind support of organisations across the city. These include Leeds City Council, Leeds Bid, Blacks Solicitors, University of Leeds, Leeds Trinity University and Moda Living.
