Leeds Rugby Foundation support national "Chip-In for Charity"

Leeds Rugby Foundation helped the National Federation of Fish Friers (NFFF) mark its official centenary on Monday 11th November, by joining 100 fish and chip shops across the UK in a Chip-In for Charity event to raise a target of £10,000 for their chosen charity, the Fishermen’s Mission, the charity dedicated to supporting fishermen and their families.

Fish and chip shops as far north as the Shetlands Islands and as far south as the Isle of Wight provided 100 glorious portions for donations of 100 pence, some to local pensioners, some delivering to sheltered housing complexes and soup kitchens, each with an individual minimum target of £100.

At their head office and training school in Meanwood, Leeds, the NFFF cooked 100 fish and chip lunches for 100 local pensioners for a donation of 100 pence per meal.  As part of the celebrations, LRF’s very own Keith Senior and everyone’s favourite mascot Ronnie the Rhino were there to show their support.

The Fishermen’s Mission Trusts and Corporate Fundraising Manager Chris Hirst commented:

”Monday’s Chip-In for Charity saw a fantastic effort made by NFFF members to celebrate the Federation’s 100 years whilst raising much-needed funds to support the work of the Fishermen’s Mission. From Shetland to Cornwall it was a delight to see coverage about the events happening and to learn the innovative fundraising which has taken place. With such activity yesterday it could well be that the target of £10,000 is exceeded.  To all those shops and their staff who took part, thank you and good luck to the NFFF for another 100 years.”
