Leeds Rugby Foundation Looking To Expand Rugby Camps Further Afield

Leeds Rugby Foundation are aiming to branch their Rugby Camps into other areas of Yorkshire next year after the success of the 2013 camps.

Close to 50 boys and girls of all abilities and backgrounds attended each camp on average this year with fun and a huge amount of potential on show.

The summer rugby camps started back in July with a Dance and Activity Camp at Wetherby High School. Leeds Rhinos star Danny McGuire then took over with two camps at Hunslet Hawks and North Leeds Leopards, before another Rhinos star in Jamie Jones-Buchanan took the reins for his camps at Stanningley RLFC and Oulton Raiders.

The Rugby Union camps were then in full swing as a number of lucky teenagers were sent off to the picturesque Barnard Castle in County Durham. The lads were joined by John Bentley, Barrie McDermott, Dean Richards and Newcastle Falcons first team players for an unforgettable experience.

Danny McGuire held another camp, this time in Guiseley before the fun continued in Yarnbury, Priesthorpe, Dinnington and West Park Leeds.

This year in particular was also the first time a camp was held in Oldham, Lancashire and it proved to be a huge hit. Rhinos and England captain Kevin Sinfield joined the fun back at his old club in Waterhead and the kids loved it.

And Jonny Wainhouse, explains that this is just the start of Leeds Rugby Foundation’s plans to branch out their rugby camps.

“Thanks to the hundreds of kids who made 2013 another great year for the Foundation rugby camps. We are now putting plans in place to expand further afield next year so we can spread the involvement of Leeds Rhinos and Leeds Carnegie beyond Leeds. Stay tuned.”
