Over the last school year, Leeds Rhinos Foundation has been able to enhance its relationships with schools across the city as part of its Partner Schools programme and with number signed up for the offer rising to 50 in the upcoming academic year, the number of children receiving coaching will rise to over 10,000 by the end of 2016.

Working in 36 primary schools in Leeds over the last school year, the charity has been able to offer each school a dedicated Leeds Rhinos Foundation Development Officer to deliver a bespoke coaching programme to meet their individual school’s needs.

Partner Schools received 20 hours delivery per day from Leeds Rhinos Foundation throughout the last school year, including curriculum time coaching but also involving sessions at breakfast clubs, lunch time and after school clubs.

Staff provide a range of activities such as multi skills, rugby skills, gymnastics and dance, which are all in line with the national curriculum and with all Partner School Officers being PTTLS qualified they have also assisted teaching in lessons.

Going into the new school year, the Partner Schools programme will be reaching even further with the Leeds Rhinos Foundation set to work in 50 Leeds primary schools and engaging with over 10,000 children throughout the year.

Leeds Rhinos Foundation’s Partner Schools Officer Dan Hardy commented: "I have seen first-hand how beneficial our presence has been in schools. The Partner Schools concept is not just about rugby league, it's about using the Leeds Rhinos brand to engage children into education and sport as a whole and it is extremely rewarding to see how big an impact our visits have and the positive feedback we receive.

"This work is only possible because of the backing from our partners and on that front I would like to thank Children in Need, WDHCS, Heart Research UK and Active Leeds for their generous support.”

One school who has benefitted from their involvement with Leeds Rhinos Foundation since September 2014 is Brudenell Primary School, Co-Head teacher at the school, Jo Davies commented: “We have been delighted to welcome our partner schools development officer, Dan Hardy, into our school. He has had a great rapport with staff and pupils and gave lots of quality coaching ideas to the staff. He gave regular feedback to the children and staff and was highly positive throughout.”
