Leeds Rhinos Foundation are pleased to announce a number of initiatives aimed at supporting local community Rugby League Coaches in 2025.
The first of these initiatives is a newly produced Community RL coaching resources with an age specific curriculum that offers coaches guidance around age appropriate technical and game themes.
Speaking on the launch of the resource, Rugby League Development Manager Darren Higgins commented: “We are extremely proud to be able to produce this resource for the benefit of coaches and players in the local community game.
“This resource has been 12 months in the making, on the back of countless hours of research and debate and a vision to offer guidance for local coaches around age-appropriate practices. We are by no means telling coaches what they should be coaching, but unfortunately there is no such resource available to coaches from a game principles perspective, which often leads to inappropriate practices in relation to age groups and players’ stage of development.
“Coaches will be able to use this as guidance based on the current abilities of their players and will have the option to move up and down the curriculum. The resource will be launched with specific coaching workshops for coaches working at different age groups and forms part of our wider coach development offer”
There will also be a bespoke curriculum for those coaching local girl’s teams.
Girls Development Officer, Ellis Pascall, added: “‘This development is a big step forward for coaches working in the girls game and local girls rugby league in general.
“Over the last few years we have started to see real progress in both the number and quality of players and teams local community clubs are starting to produce. This girls curriculum will again offer guidance and support to coaches working in the community game and add to the existing coach development offers already provided by the Foundation.”
