Leeds Rhinos Foundation partner up with The Rainbow Care Group to host Open Day at AMT Headingley Stadium

In partnership with Dementia Specialists, The Rainbow Care Group, Leeds Rhinos Foundation are relaunching our joint initiative to provide sports focused day care with a difference for people living with dementia in our community.

As an Age and Dementia Friendly Stadium here at AMT Headingley, the Leeds Rhinos Foundation have worked towards creating a safe and comfortable environment for all. One of the ways in which the charity has strived towards this is through working with different organisations to provide dementia friendly support services.

A recent partnership with The Rainbow Care Group has increased this offering by uniting people through their passion for sports.

Specialist, sports-focused provision will be provided every Wednesday in the Leeds Rhinos Foundation Community Hub, with participants engaging in activities and conversations with fellow sport enthusiasts, whilst being invited to attend a Leeds Rhinos home match to relive their Rugby League memories.

Leeds Rhinos Foundation are one of the major sports brands who are working towards offering new types of dementia care, such as that offered to sporting communities including ex-players, coaches and fans.

The Rainbow Care Group provides dementia day care services across North and West Yorkshire including specialist sports service day care groups. They run their groups in peaceful community settings to ensure that their days do not feel clinical or institutional. Through their services they encourage social Interaction, whilst providing cognitive stimulation through meaningful activities. Their mission is to promote dignity and independence whilst striving to provide individualised, person-centred care.

AMT Headingley Stadium is steeped in history and heritage and many people within our sporting communities have memories of attending or playing at the iconic rugby league ground. Hosting these sessions within the stadium, outside of a more traditional care setting, helps to enhance The Rainbow Care Group’s person led approach by creating a safe, familiar environment.

We will be working in partnership with The Rainbow Care Group to hold an exclusive Open Day, aimed at those looking for new opportunities to engage in weekly activities, providing respite for family members and carers.

The Open Day will give a taster for what is on offer and how this initiative can benefit those living with dementia. We will also be joined by a special guest from the Leeds Rhinos first team!
