Leeds Rhinos Foundation launches Nutrition Project to promote healthier communities

Leeds Rhinos Foundation have recently launched the Nutrition Project, dedicated to helping community clubs by creating healthy environments where young people and families can thrive.

Whether it’s through direct support or tailored advice, we aim to make a meaningful impact on every club’s journey towards creating a healthier space for their community.

Each club who engages has a designated Nutrition Champion, who works closely with Leeds Rhinos Foundation to identify opportunities for improvement and implement strategies that promote better health standards across their club.

Leeds Rhinos Foundation offer a variety of resources, including in-person educational workshops, social media campaigns and practical tools designed for clubs. At the start of each project, every club makes a pledge—setting goals for positive change over a 6 to 12 month period. While we understand that making lasting changes can be challenging, we focus on small, actionable steps that lead to big results.

Our 10 Steps to Good Nutrition resources offer valuable tips for families, helping guide healthy nutritional habits that support their rugby league activities. These messages are reinforced by some of our biggest stars every month, bringing the initiative to life!

Ben Berry, Wellbeing & Inclusion Manager said: “We’re thrilled to launch the Nutrition Project. By helping clubs make small, meaningful changes and offering educational resources, we aim to create lasting improvements in how young people and families approach nutrition. Good nutrition is crucial for sports participation—it helps with energy, recovery, growth, and overall performance, while also providing the foundation for success beyond sport.

“We also know that the habits young people form now can influence their health well into adulthood. If we can educate and inspire positive changes today, the benefits will last long into the future. We’re incredibly thankful to the community clubs, coaches, volunteers, and parents who have embraced the project early on, and we look forward to seeing more clubs join in to create healthier environments for their communities.”

This programme is supported by Public Health England and Nuffield Health.
