Leeds Rhinos Foundation and Active Schools launch local schools cluster offer

Gareth Cook

Leeds Rhinos Foundation is delighted to announce an exciting partnership with Active Schools Leeds to deliver bespoke high quality physical education, physical activity and sport across Leeds.

The partnership will allow Leeds Rhinos Foundation and Active School Leeds to offer a new provision for the city, with the appointment of Active School Locality Co-ordinators (ASLC) who will work in local school clusters.

The new offer will allow school clusters the opportunity to come together from both primary and secondary schools to create a local model focusing on curriculum PE sessions within schools, enrichment opportunities after school, competitions and teacher CPD.

Schools will be able pool their sports premium and create unique programme that meets the needs of each school whilst implementing and delivering an inspiring programme for children and young people to lead and active lifestyle.

The partnership combines the benefits of being both an Active School member and a Leeds Rhinos Partner School, including assemblies, Leeds Rhinos Takeover days, in association with Caddick and Cover Structure, a visit from Ronnie Rhino and much more.

Leeds Rhinos Community Manager, Gareth Cook said: “We have been working tirelessly on this bespoke cluster model for nearly a year with Gail and Jill at Active Schools and it’s wonderful to be able to finally launch the partnership. Already two groups of schools have committed to employing an Active Schools Locality Co-ordinator and we look forward to other schools coming on board to link in with a City wide initiative.”

Gail Palmer Smeaton, Active School, Strategic Lead commented: “The aim of Active Schools Leeds is to promote and develop, through collaboration and partnership, a sustainable system for Physical activity, PE and Sport that enriches the lives of all children and young people – this partnership with Leeds Rhinos Foundation will enable us to do just that. It is a fantastic opportunity to work with a group of people who share our vision for the city and its schools and want all children to be active and achieve more.”
