Last night Leeds Rugby Foundation Development Officers Lois Forsell and Russell Parker teamed up with local school teachers Lee Parkin, James Endersby and Terri Nelson to select a team to play Australian School team Merrimac State School on Tuesday 23rd September.

This September Merrimac State School and Gold Coast Girls Rugby Champions are touring the UK visiting London, Northumberland, Scotland and Leeds. David Maccoll of Merrimac State School was keen to get some game time for his girls team whilst over in Leeds which saw a fantastic opportunity for Leeds Schools to put together a strong squad to take on the current Gold Coast Champions.

Leeds Rugby Foundation used this as an opportunity to bring together the girls who took part in last year’s launch of the Leeds Girls Year 9 & 10 Inter League which was a big success. We held trials for the schools who competed within the Leeds Girls Inter League last year in which 18 girls were selected to play against the Australian Outfit. The schools invited were John Smeaton Academy, Corpus Christi Catholic College, Cockburn School, Huntington School and David Young Community Academy. The girls showed a mass of potential and excellent skills which made selecting 18 girls a hard task.
