Leeds Rhinos Foundation is recruiting for a Project Tutor to work on a variety of projects based at their TryZone education centre.

SALARY: £ 18,000 p/a
CONTRACT LENGTH: 40 Hours a week. 12 Months (fixed term – subject to funding)
LOCATION: Headingley Carnegie Stadium, Leeds
RESPONSIBLE TO: Partnership Manager

Leeds Rhinos Foundation is the official charity of the Leeds Rhinos. We work in the heart of the community harnessing the power of sport to make a lasting and positive impact on individuals' lives.

Leeds Rhinos Foundation have developed a number of exciting Educational / Personal Development projects delivered from both our centre 'TryZone' and in the form of off-site activities. We utilise Leeds Rhinos Foundation's expertise and resources, together with the skills of partners to reduce risk taking and anti-social behaviour, improve emotional and physical health and wellbeing, improve confidence and enhance employability prospects among groups of disadvantaged young people and adults.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone who has experience of supporting young people / adults to join a well-established successful team and be responsible for hands on delivery of education projects and to help shape how programmes develop. The successful candidate will plan and manage the delivery of sessions to the young people who attend making use of the facilities and resources available via the professional rugby team Leeds Rhinos.

You will be an enthusiastic and adaptable individual with experience working with diverse groups of learners. The successful candidate would also recognise the value in utilising available resources in the club to inspire and motivate young people and adults to achieve

Specific projects have been developed to support individuals who are NEET (Not in Education, Employment or Training) and are designed to bridge the gap between personal life skills and gaining employment. You will be responsible for project planning, design resources for, and deliver innovative sessions to groups of young people across different age groups within a classroom/sporting setting, based mainly at the world famous Headingley Carnegie Stadium.

You will lead on the delivery of learning projects and may be asked to deliver some accredited learning. You will have the ability to teach in a group setting, on a one to one basis and support pupils who have a range of learning needs.

You will have, and further develop the skills to work alongside challenging cohorts of learners who can have complex issues creating barriers to learning. You will also have a flexible and friendly approach to teaching. In addition to key educational outcomes you will work with the young people to help them develop their soft skills, coping mechanisms, confidence and ability to make friends.

The projects we deliver can vary dependent on funding streams and priorities of the City so a flexible approach and ability to adapt your work across a number of agendas is crucial.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for initiating and undertaking projects and activities which are both fun and educational. Encourage a fun, positive, atmosphere ensuring that young people play an active role and developing feelings of ownership.
  • Flexible approach to delivery to ensure all individuals’ needs are met.
  • Recruitment of young people from the wider community and external agencies.
  • Meeting key workers and 1-1 meetings prior to referral being made, obtaining individual risk assessments where required.
  • Ensuring that all referrals and group activities are booked to deliver projects.
  • Communicate effectively and develop a rapport with young people. Empathise with young people, and relate to young people and adults in a positive way
  • Good interpersonal and team skills and the ability to work in a team and on his/her own.
  • Positively challenge inappropriate behaviour in a restorative way.
  • Provide information and support to young people and signpost to wider community and external agencies where appropriate.
  • Work in partnership with professionals from other organisations that support young people such as social care, health, police, education, youth offending teams and local authorities.
  • Undertake administrative tasks, maintain effective recording systems and respond to queries.
  • To monitor, record and evaluate projects.
  • Obtain or write appropriate risk assessments for activities.
  • You will support learners with their learning needs and liaise with the Project Manager, schools, colleagues within Leeds Rhinos Foundation and Leeds Rugby, multi-agencies and other external partners as well as the young people's families
  • To be aware of safeguarding and child protection procedures and to report as necessary as appropriate to the role
  • Use our monitoring and evaluation system ‘Upshot’ to record all relevant information and case studies.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
This is not a 9-5 position. The project will be delivered during and outside of school hours; therefore the successful candidates will need to be flexible with their working hours.
