Leeds Rhinos Foundation organised a Health Takeover game this season

The Leeds Rhinos Foundation and Leeds Public Health teamed up at the First Utility Super League game between Leeds Rhinos and Hull KR on Friday 22nd May to promote healthy lifestyles to Rugby League supporters through a range of stations offering free health checks and healthy lifestyle activities.

Fans attending the game last Friday were invited to come down early and partake in a free health check, pick up some health information from a healthy lifestyles practitioner, enjoy a free healthy food sample or take part in an activity in a free offering ran by staff from health organisations across Leeds.

Services provided on the night included a lifestyle check for adults and the opportunity to have a Heart Age Check, a Change for Life zone for young supporters, including a series of Leeds Lets Change Smart Swaps activities, a Leeds Lets Get Active station with rowing and cycling machines, plus a Jamie's Ministry of Food, Leeds station providing free samples of healthy food.

Speaking about the Healthy Lifestyles takeover activities running on the night, Leeds Rhinos Foundation's Partnership Manager, Dan Busfield, said:

“The Health Takevover Game proved to be a fantastic night, there’s been lots of things for fans to engage in around the stadium around health and to get a bit more education towards ultimately how to look after themselves in their local community. There’s been six different stations they can visit from physical activity, to Jamie’s Ministry of Food healthy snacks station, to the Leeds Community Health team conducting health checks and signposting people to appropriate services.

“Tonight’s game came about through our partnership with the Leeds City Council and Leeds public health and with being the Leeds Rhinos and the Leeds Rhinos Foundation we understand our responsibility and the part there is to play in making Leeds a healthy city.”
