Head of Athletic Performance Jason Davidson supporting Coach Education Programme

Leeds Rhinos Coaching staff including Head of Athletic Performance Jason Davidson will be adding their insight and expertise to Leeds Rhinos Foundation’s Coach Education programme supported by Mears in 2018

Davidson along with Rhinos Assistant Coach Barry Eaton and Head of Player Production Chev Walker will be in attendance at the Coach Education launch night to talk about this year’s calendar of workshops, which will include insight into the field of strength and conditioning and the training methods adopted by Leeds Rhinos.

Speaking about the programme Davidson said:

“I am a big believer in sharing best practice and educating the community game.

“The Coach Education programme provides a very valuable opportunity for coaches to come along and learn from coaches at a professional sports club, where we will pass on some insight into a range of topics including strength and conditioning for young players.”

Davidson, who received an honorary doctorate from Leeds Beckett University in 2016 in recognition of his work in using sports science to optimise performance and aid talent identification in elite sport, will also be taking part in a Q+A session on the night, which will give coaches the chance to put across their questions around strength and conditioning and rugby league fitness.

“Rugby League is a physical game with a high impact where getting the strength and conditioning right is very important, so we are looking forward to opening the floor to coaches to come along gain some proper insight into Rugby League league fitness," he added.

The evening, taking place at Leeds Rugby Academy from 7pm, is open to all coaches from the rugby league community who will be registered onto the programme for the year for full access to workshops delivered by Rhinos first team coaches, players and coaching staff from Leeds Rhinos Foundation.

Community Club’s Development Officer Sam Horner, who has organised the programme in partnership with Barry Eaton said that the programme for 2018 will be allowing coaches the chance to decide on the topics of workshops in the second half of the year.

“In 2018 the Coach Education programme will give coaches more input into what we will deliver across the year and catered to meet the needs of the coaches.

“The launch night will be supported by Ian Hardman, Callum Tolson, Lois Forsell, Joe Sanderson, myself and Leon Crick, who deliver our Rugby League Development plan in the city and will be able to discuss with representatives in their area what content and support we can offer this year.”
