Leeds Rhinos Foundation and Leeds United Foundation have teamed up to launch a new initiative to encourage people in the city to get more active.
Marching On Together is a 30 day walking challenge, which is aimed at people looking to get more active whilst exploring local areas, using guided walking routes.
The challenge has three different levels with different targets ranging from 6,000 to 10,000 steps daily, depending on individual’s fitness. Participants are encouraged to take regular daily walks and build up their fitness to allow them to move onto other goals such as a 10k or team sports.
Amy Livingstone, health improvement officer at Leeds Rhinos Foundation said: “During the last few months many people have been starting new fitness regimes and looking at ways to be more active.
“Walking is a great way to stay fit and can be something you can do on your own to give yourself some time, with perhaps a mindfulness podcast, or you can also go out and have some fun with the family by taking part in our virtual scavenger hunts.
“We are delighted to be working in partnership with Leeds United Foundation on this. Both charities are committed to the city’s ambition to make Leeds one of the healthiest cities in the UK and we hope this new initiative is the start of many exciting collaborative health projects that will benefit our community.”
The challenge will also be getting support from Leeds Beckett University who will be carrying out studies on the health benefits of the challenge along with Leeds Public Health and Active Leeds who will be promoting the challenge.
Marching On Together is a free challenge, however, for those who would like some added motivation, for a small donation to the charities, participants could be in with a chance of winning a range of amazing prizes.
Depending on the challenge level you choose Leeds Rhinos Foundation and Leeds United Foundation are offering those who take part in the challenge the opportunity to be entered into a raffle to win prizes such as a signed Leeds Rhinos and Leeds United shirts, annual gym memberships, various sporting vouchers and even a VIP Match Day experiences.
