Foundation to help get toddlers school ready with new Ronnie’s Rascals programme

The new programme will be delivered by Leeds Rhinos Foundation's team of experienced school partnership officers

Leeds Rhinos Foundation School staff are inviting parents and toddlers to take part in a new pilot programme designed to assist in getting young children school ready and promote parent and child interaction starting on 16th January.

Ronnie’s Rascals, which is suitable for children aged 2-4, will target the National Curriculum for Early Years Foundation stage, covering themes including Communication and Language, Physical Development, Physical Social Emotional Development, Literacy, Mathematics, Understanding the world and expressive arts and design.
 
The four-week pilot will be delivered through FUNdamental movement games, interactive nursery rhymes and circle time activities to discuss feelings and emotions.
 
Leeds Rhinos Foundation Community Manager, Gareth Cook commented: “Ronnie’s Rascals is a great concept and helps to get young children both boys and girls school ready. This includes listening to instructions, communicating and also taking part in physical activity to strengthen muscle groups that aid children perform simple tasks such as holding a pen.
 
“Our schools partnership officers, Gavyn Lightowler and Dane Weatherill, have worked hard to get the programme up and running and I urge parents to get involved if your child is aged between two and four. We have no doubt the pilot scheme will be a success and we look forward to rolling out the programme across the city later in the year.”
 
The pilot programme will be based at Colton Primary school, starting on Monday 16th January 9.30am – 10.15am for children aged 2-4 years old with have 12 places available costing £20.
