We are delighted to announce our new initiative, Rhinos Reach, a specifically designed programme to help adults with learning disabilities develop their workplace skills and gain valuable experience.
This structured employability course is adapted to meet the unique needs and abilities of those with learning disabilities, providing them the tools and opportunities they need to thrive in various professional environments.
Rhinos Reach will provide an inclusive and supportive community, with the aim of breaking down barriers and challenging stereotypes, promoting a positive perception of adults with learning disabilities in the workforce. The programme includes hands-on training sessions, mentorship and support, an employability course and volunteering opportunities.
Through these experiences, individuals will enhance their communication skills, build their confidence, receive on the job experience, build their CV, learn digital skills and so much more, all within a professional sporting environment.
Partnerships and Project Manager, Ben Berry, said: “We are delighted to be expanding our offer for those with learning disabilities, as we see the daily barriers that these people often face, especially relating to paid work and volunteering.
“Through this new initiative, we will be looking to empower these adults to develop valuable workplace skills. We are passionate about creating an inclusive environment where everyone has the opportunity to showcase their talents and what they are capable of.
“Through this initiative, we are not just teaching skills; we are opening doors to new possibilities and brighter futures for our participants, while also providing teachings and information to partners in the community of how to make roles within work accessible to more people. ”
The Community Grants project is being delivered by Groundwork UK and is funded by the UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF). In West Yorkshire the West Yorkshire Combined Authority leads the implementation of the Fund as part of the Mayor’s ambition to make West Yorkshire the best place to work, learn and live.
Courses start on September 2nd and are open to anyone with a Learning Disability who is not currently in full time education or employment. Participants are welcome to attend these sessions independently or with support.
There will be two courses running concurrently from AMT Headingley Stadium, with a course for 18-25s (Friday Afternoons) and 25 years and above (Thursday Mornings).
