Monday 28th October saw Leeds Rugby Foundation South Leeds Development Officer Lois Forsell and Hawks Head Coach Barry Eaton deliver the first girls only school holiday training session at South Leeds Stadium, as Lois explains.
Girls from local community clubs such as Beeston Broncos, Stanningley, Leeds Irish Centre, Birstall Victoria and Hunslet Hawks attended. The session ran from 10am-12pm at South Leeds Stadium and girls aged 18 attended.
The girls were put through their paces and demonstrated excellent skills throughout the session. They participated in drills to improve their passing, catching, agility, tackling and kicking skills. There were three awards up for grabs and they were awarded to those who demonstrated great attitudes, skills and behaviour throughout the session.
Georgia Roche of Birstall Victoria who was great throughout the session showing fantastic game sense awareness and tackle technique was selected for one of the awards and received a Hunslet Hawks Ball. Megan Mallinson was selected too for a mature attitude throughout displaying great communication and encouragement to others in team games and received an England Women's training top. Eleanor Backhouse also received recognition for her brilliant footwork, pace and tackling throughout the session and received a Hunslet Hawks Family Ticket for the upcoming 2014 season.
The girls all enjoyed the session Grace of Beeston Broncos described it as 'Epic'. Lois Forsell South Leeds Development Officer commented 'It was great to see so many girls involved in a rugby league session during the holidays and they all did great. We hope to see them all again in future school holidays to keep them engaged and improving their skills.
The girls all received a goody bag after the session courtesy of a kind donation from Co-operative Beeston which included a bottle of water, an apple, a banana and a chocolate bar.
