First Bus offer free travel for NCS participants

This week Leeds Rhinos Foundation will begin their delivery of the National Citizen Service (NCS) to young people aged 16 and 17.  Week one will involve the group spending a week together at Carr Manor School, where they will take part in various workshops and start their plans for the project which they will work on over summer.

Thanks to a partnership between EFL Trust and First Bus all the young people taking part in the NCS project will get free bus travel across Yorkshire and Humber.  A unique code will be sent to everyone participating and this can be redeemed on the First Bus App.

In 2019 Leeds Rhinos Foundation agreed a new partnership with First Bus, which saw the local bus operator become the charity’s Club Ambassador main partner, with a focus on providing support for rugby league activity delivered to the Rhinos’ Ambassador community clubs.

Dan Busfield, Head of Partnerships and Development at Leeds Rhinos Foundation said: “When we started working with First Bus last year we wanted to encourage more young people to travel sustainably and for bus travel to become an integral part of young people’s lives to give them the independence and confidence to use public transport across the region.

“We are delighted that First Bus are now working with NCS to offer the young people involved free travel.  The National Citizen Service is a really exciting scheme to be involved in.  We know it will equip the young people taking part with valuable life skills and help them to become more engaged with their communities and we are looking forward to seeing the projects they start working on to support our community.”

All those taking part in NCS will be given guidance regarding face masks, seating capacity and how to travel safely on buses.

Nearly half a million young people have taken part in NCS. For almost a decade, they have been working with local businesses, youth centres, football clubs and grassroots initiatives to make the world a fairer, kinder, more compassionate place.
