Corpus Christi take home Girls Year 7 and 8 inter-league trophies

Corpus Christi's victorious A and B sides

Corpus Christi Catholic College proved too strong for the rest of the Year 7 and 8 Girls Inter-League competition winning the overall league standings and the League Cup competition to cap off another memorable year of girls school Rugby League.

The Leeds inter-league competition, which pits schools from across the city against each other in 11 a'side games to encourage more rugby league fixtures throughout the year, has been running since the beginning of May organised by Competitions Coordinator Lois Forsell and school P.E teachers from each of the 11 schools involved.

Schools taking part this year included Cockburn, David Young Community Academy, Mount St Mary’s, Sherburn High, Bruntcliffe Academy, Huntington School, Morley Academy, Brigshaw School, Temple Moor, Corpus Christi A and B sides, who organised their round robin league fixtures independently in time for the finals event at David Young Community Academy last week.

After performing strongly in the group stage fixtures, Corpus Christi A, Cockburn High and DYCA qualified to the Champion of Champions overall winners competition with Brigshaw, Sherburn High and Corpus Christi B taking part in the League Cup competition on the night.

Overall Champions Corpus A's defence on the night proved the difference keeping both DYCA and Cockburn, who had beaten Corpus in the earlier fixtures, scoreless on the night to claim the Champion of Champions trophy in emphatic style.

Then to round of a clean sweep for Corpus Christi, the Corpus B side came out on top in a very tight League Cup competition which saw Sherburn draw both of their games 12-12, leaving Corpus' 16-8 victory over Brigshaw to be the eventual winning result.

Lois Forsell commented:

"The League numbers were great this year and hopefully we can keep them improving year on year with support from the schools.

"The girls played great last night in tough conditions, there were some very close games and it's nice to see how much talent there is at the minute in schools rugby. Thank you to DYCA for hosting the finals it was much appreciated and for everyone for attending."
