Charities team up to help disadvantaged children

Leeds Rhinos Foundation will be working in partnership with Action for Children

Leeds Rhinos Foundation and national children’s charity Action for Children are working together to help the most disadvantaged children and young people in the UK break through injustice, deprivation and inequality.

The new partnership will see Action for Children and Leeds Rhinos Foundation work together to deliver a City and Guilds Level 1 in Employability and Personal Development which is specifically aimed at young people who are experiencing barriers to gaining employment for a wide range of reasons.

The six-week course will be based in Oxygen Free Jumping Centre and will cover Planning for Progression, Effective Skills Qualities and attitudes for learning and work, Managing Personal Finance, Contributing to a Team, Searching for a Job, Applying for a Job, Preparing for Work and Work Based Experience.

Over the last year Leeds Rhinos Foundation has been working with young people through their Off the Bench educational programme to help them bridge the gap between personal life skills and gaining employment and now the attendees on this programme will be given the opportunity to earn a City and Guilds qualification through this new partnership.

Janet Sylvester, project tutor at Leeds Rhinos Foundation said: “This is a wonderful opportunity for the young people we work with to gain a qualification which will further enhance their chances of gaining employment.
We share Action for Children’s commitment to helping disadvantaged children and ensuring they have equal opportunities to succeed and fulfil their ambitions.  This is an exciting new partnership which will have benefits to young people in need and the wider community.”

Ray Woolford, Programme manager at Action for Children said “We believe that sports clubs like Leeds Rhinos are very much at the heart of their community and we are very proud to partner with them to deliver employability support to young people in the city who face barriers in finding employment. We look forward to developing this innovative partnership in the forthcoming months.”

The City and Guilds Level 1 in Employability and Personal Development course starts on 17th November.  For further details on the course contact janet.sylvester@leedsrhinosfoundation.org
