Leeds Rhinos Foundation’s Coach Education programme will return to Leeds Rugby Academy on 7th December with a ‘Coaching Forward Play’ Workshop led by Leeds Rhinos Assistant Coach Barry Eaton and special guest coach Adam Cuthbertson
The Coach Education programme, organised by the Leeds Rhinos Foundation with support from Leeds Rhinos Head Coach Brian McDermott and his team of staff including Assistant Coach Barry Eaton, will be entering it's 6th year in 2017 forming an important part of the vision for the charity's Rugby League Development plan sponsored by MEARS.
The RLDP plan, which was created in 2013, has been designed to increase player participation, fan engagement and improve standards in all aspects of the game, with the Coach Education programme developed to improve the teaching and coaching of all players in the city through the upskilling of part time and amateur coaches.
As a pre-cursor to the new programme starting in 2017, Leeds Rhinos Assistant Coach Barry Eaton will be joined by Super League winning forward Adam Cuthbertson for the first position specific workshop of the new programme on 'Coaching Forward Play'.
Cuthbertson, who set a Super League record for offloads during the 2015 season and helped lead the Leeds Rhinos to their unique treble success, will be working with the Leeds Rhinos Scholarship players on night covering drills on offloading under pressure, ball handling skills and offensive and defensive methods for forward players.
All community coaches are invited to observe the session where Adam and Barry will be breaking down the content on the night and fielding questions from coaches in attendance. Attendees will also get the opportunity to watch the scholarship players in their own session on strength and conditioning also taking place on the night.
Clubs Community Development Officer Sam Horner, who co-coordinates the Coach Education programme said:
“Brian McDermott has supported the community club coaches and the Coach Education programme for 4 years now and will continue to head up the programme with some workshop delivery in 2017 and we are delighted to have Barry Eaton continuing Brian's great work by committing to the programme again this year."
"We will also be fortunate to have the input of a number of the Leeds Rhinos first team squad who will be supporting the programme on some of our position specific workshops, passing on some of their expertise which will be a great experience for our community coaches.
"As always i'd like to thank the Rhinos for their commitment to the community game."
To book a place on the workshop please email LRCABooking@leedsrhinosfoundation.org leaving your name, address, club you coach at and the age group.
Coaches are asked to arrive at 6.45pm where they will be met by Sam Horner and staff members to register with the session starting at 7.00pm and finishing at 8.30pm.
Coach Education will be returning again in January 2017, with more workshops and special guests to be announced, including a half back workshop led by Barry Eaton and a Leeds Rhinos player (details to tbc).
