If your New Year’s resolution was to get more active in 2020, take a look at some of the fantastic programmes that Leeds Rhinos Foundation deliver in the community which could help you achieve your new health goals:

TRY CLUB

Our popular men’s weight management project ‘Try Club’ is a 12-week programme for men looking to regain their fitness and lose weight by combining classroom learning with physical activity. The course is free to attend and available for all men aged over 18 who have a BMI of 25 or above.

The programme has been a huge success since it launched in 2016 and last year it helped 50 men lose a combined weight of 15 stone.

The dates for our upcoming Try Club courses are:
– Emerald Headingley Stadium, LS6 3BR), every Wednesday 6-7:30pm, starting 12th February.

RHINOS ACTIVE SOCIAL

Our Rhinos Active Social programme for over 55s takes place weekly in two venues across Leeds, helping people to improve their physical and social wellbeing.

The free two-hour sessions provide a wide variety of taster activities, including beginner’s yoga, tai chi, chair-based exercises, dance, walking netball and rugby- built on the premise of providing a casual means of exercise and peer interaction with people of a similar age.

Rhinos Active Social takes place each week at the following times:
• Tuesday 10:30am-12:30pm in the Foundation Community Hub, Emerald Headingley Stadium, LS6 3BR
• Wednesday 10am-12pm in the O.P.A.L Welcome In Community Centre, 55 Bedford Drive, LS16 6DJ

ACTIVE BEYOND CANCER

Leeds Rhinos Foundation- in partnership with Yorkshire Cancer Research- offers a rehabilitation programme to support cancer patients in Leeds.

Active Beyond Cancer programme is a free 12-week programme delivered at three hubs in Leeds; Armley, Rothwell and Fearnville Leisure Centres. It is available to anyone over the age of 18 who has received a cancer diagnosis and a carer, friend or family member is also welcome to come along.

The aim of each session is to help improve your knowledge and application of healthy eating and increase your fitness through tailored physical activity taster sessions, in order to improve your overall health and wellbeing.

The dates for our upcoming Active Beyond Cancer courses are:
• Armley Leisure Centre, LS12 3HB- every Wednesday 1-2:30pm from 12th February
• Fearnville Leisure Centre, LS8 3LF- every Thursday 1-2:30pm from 13th February
• Rothwell Leisure Centre, LS26 8EL- every Thursday 4:30-6pm from 13th February

RHINESTONES DANCE ACADEMY

The Rhinestones Dance Academy is run by qualified dance coaches for all children aged 4-18 who will learn cheer, street and break dance.

The idea of Rhinestones is to provide quality dance training at an affordable price, with dancers getting the opportunity to experience the thrill of performing in front of thousands of Leeds Rhinos fans at Emerald Headingley Stadium on matchdays, as well as the chance to star in the Rhinestones’ annual ‘Dance Spectacular’ show.

All you need is lots of enthusiasm, a water bottle and appropriate clothing and footwear for dancing. Classes are weekly- during term time only- and Rhinestones branded uniform is also available to purchase.
