The Leeds Rhinos Foundation Dance Spectacular returns to the Headingley Carnegie this Friday with over 250 boys and girls from schools across Leeds taking part in the annual pitch performance in front of the Leeds Rhinos crowd for the First Utility Super League fixture against Salford Red Devils
A total of 12 schools will be performing on the night during half time at the game from primary schools across Leeds, York and outlying towns associated with the Rhinos through the School Ambassador Scheme.
Bell lane, Park Spring, Rothwell Victoria, Churwell, Southroyd, Pudsey Lowtown, Robert Wilkinson, Queensway, Allerton, East Garforth, Tadcaster East and Crossgates primary schools will take part alongside the Foundation's Rhinestones Dance Academy performers, who have all learnt the same choreography for the event.
To learn the routine, teachers from each of the schools have been recruited to prepare their students for the performance by following a teaching DVD provided by Dance Coordinator for the Rhinestones Nicola Booth.
The annual Dance Spectacular gives pupils from the schools the opportunity to experience a Headingley match day from a unique pitch view, while showcase their dancing skills in front of the capacity crowds at the stadium on a match night.
Dance coaching is now at the forefront of the sports offer that the Leeds Rhinos Foundation delivers in schools in Leeds, alongside the Rugby and Multi-Skills delivery, utilising the expertise of full time dance officer and Spencer Properties Dance Team Captain Nicola Booth and Cultural Partnership Officer Alishia Schofield.
Dance is offered as lunch time and after school clubs alongside curriculum based lessons, offering teaching in different areas of dance as Nicola Booth explains:
"We now have the widest delivery of Dance we have ever offered in the 10 year history of the Leeds Rhinos Foundation and the numbers on Friday are a great example of the demand for dance opportunities within the Leeds schools system and outside."
"I'm so proud of all the children who worked so hard to be ready for this performance. They have been really dedicated to learning the choreography in school and I know they are really excited to get to perform in front of their parents and the crowd on Friday."
