Leeds Rhinos Foundation are pleased to be working in partnership with Royds High School to improve engagement, attendance and confidence with pupils in years 7 and 8.
As part of the partnership, three cohorts of pupils will have attended a six-week block of sessions based from TryZone at Headingley Carnegie Stadium by the end of the academic school year which has been organised through Leeds Rhinos Under 15 coach Steve Fox, who is the Bridge Manager at the Royds school.
Sessions have included the positive impact teamwork, communication, responsibility and engagement can have on a young person's life as well as, role model sessions with Leeds Rhinos stars Brett Delaney, Keith Galloway and Leeds Rhinos Non-Executive Director Jeffrey Walton.
The programme, now in its third cycle of students, also provides sessions based off-site, which have included making healthy food, playing rugby at the Leeds Rhinos Kirkstall training base and learning survival skills from an expert on Otley Chevin.
Steve Fox commented:
"Working within both organisations, I firmly believe that this course, combining Rugby League and social skills with education, has helped our students to engage and interact in a totally new and exciting way."
Mr Kelly, Headteacher at Royds added;
"We are delighted to be working in partnership with Leeds Rhinos, who are such positive role models to our young people.
"As we teach important life skills and instil lifelong values of respect, resilience and responsibility in our students, it's fantastic that Leeds Rhinos are committed to doing the same and developing the character of our students. We hope it continues for many years to come."
