Girls War of the Roses encounter a big hit!

Leeds Rugby Foundation hosted a full-contact girls War of the Roses game prior to Leeds Rhinos win over Wigan Warriors which saw Temple Moor of Leeds take on Rose Bridge of Wigan.

Report by Lois Forsell:

Rose Bridge ran away with the game in the first half, but in the 2nd half Temple Moor got themselves some scores on the board. However it was a little too late and a consolation for them as the game finished 26-60 to Rose Bridge.

The girls were then treated to refreshments at amateur club Milford Marlins, followed by attending the main event at Headingley Carnegie Stadium – Leeds Rhinos vs Wigan Warriors.

Lois Forsell commented on the success of the night: “It was great for the girls to get an experience of playing against a team from further afield and they thrived in the whole War of the Roses idea.

“Credit to Rose Bridge who played really well and the experience gives the girls from Temple Moor something to work towards. It was great to team up with Amanda Wilkinson from Wigan Warriors and we are already looking forward to planning the return leg next season over at Wigan which will hopefully be bigger and better.”

The successful event followed a year 9 and 10 touch festival at Hunslet Warriors last week.

The day saw 5 schools; Morley Academy, Horsforth, Allerton High, John Smeaton and Royds compete in a fun-filled festival.

Congratulations must go to Morley Academy who walked away victorious!
