45 runners set to take on Marathon challenge in aid of Leeds Rhinos Foundation and Leeds Well Schools

This weekend, 45 dedicated runners representing the Leeds Rhinos Foundation and the Leeds Well Schools Partnership will take on an incredible challenge, competing in either the Rob Burrow Leeds Marathon or the Leeds Half Marathon.

The gruelling challenge highlights the commitment of runners to support our mission in changing lives through the power of sport, inspired by so many fantastic players that graced the AMT Headingley pitch such as Rob Burrow and Kevin Sinfield.

Among those taking part are Chris Young, Tom Kaye and Dan Bell from the Foundation’s Physical Disability Rugby League (PDRL) side. Through disability rugby league, they have experienced life-changing opportunities, not only finding a sport they love but also a welcoming and inclusive environment. Whilst Tom and Dan have previously completed marathon events, this weekend marks Chris’ first attempt at a marathon distance challenge.

We are also delighted to be welcoming seven employees from ENGIE Supply UK, our Inclusive Sport Partner, who will be taking part in the Leeds Half Marathon. ENGIE’s support allows us to continue providing inclusive sporting opportunities for people with physical and learning disabilities, alongside creating amazing experiences for young players through their role as our Match Day Experience Partner at AMT Headingley Stadium.

Kevin Eaglestone will be taking on his fourth Rob Burrow Leeds Marathon. Last year’s top fundraiser, Kevin raised over £1,500 for the Foundation. A very consistent runner, Kevin has finished his last three marathons in 3:16, 3:16 and 3:19.

Also tackling the full 26.2 miles is Graham Holroyd, leader of our Fordy Runs Running Club. Graham’s effort this weekend is even more extraordinary considering he completed a 50-mile trail ultra just last weekend, all in support of the Foundation.

The Leeds Rhinos Foundation is eternally grateful to all those lacing up their trainers this weekend and appreciate the effort, passion and determination behind every mile ran. We wish everyone taking to the streets of Leeds this weekend the very best of luck!

Funds raised will directly support the Foundation’s mission to change lives through the power of sport — ensuring that inclusive, accessible opportunities remain available to individuals of all backgrounds and abilities across the community.
