Leeds Rhinos Women’s team will be inspiring the next generation of young players with a series of player development session dates over the coming months at local community clubs across the city.
The Monday night sessions are suitable for girls in year 10 and 11 (or up to the age of 19) and will be available at five clubs who have registered girl’s age groups including East Leeds, West Leeds, Shawcross, Stanningley and Oulton.
The sessions led by Leeds Rhinos Foundation Women and Girls Development Officer Lois Forsell will include coaching from the Leeds Rhinos coaching team with the chance to meet players from the Leeds Rhinos women’s first team.
Forsell, who began her career at East Leeds ARLFC before becoming Leeds Rhinos first ever Women’s Captain commented on the need to continue to build on the momentum in the women’s game:
“We are really pleased to have launched not only a women’s first team but an under 16-19s development side this year which provides a really good platform to build for the future.
“The women’s game is really riding the crest of a wave on the back of the World Cup and launch of Super League and the game is very much thriving in Leeds as well with some good young players already playing club and school rugby and lots of untapped talent as well who can benefit from these player development sessions, so we encourage all young girls to come along and have a go.”
