‘Tour de Quest En-Route’

Quest 14 has been officially launched: From left: Keith Senior

As you all may have heard, Leeds Rhinos legend Keith Senior and his five-strong cycling team are on route their Quest 14 challenge from France to Headingley.

The team started out on Sunday from Perpignan, in the South of France, the home of the Catalan Dragons, where they cycled to Gaillac, covering 136 miles. The team set up camp in Gaillac before then departed to Perigueux on day 2 covering 130 miles. Today is currently day three of the eight day cycle where Senior and co are on route to Poitiers, on the Caen River.

Tomorrow Senior will set sail to Le Mans, the home of the famous sports-car endurance race, ‘24 Hours of Le Mans’. The Quest 14 team will then pass through the famous Pegasus Bridge, Normandy from 1934, which played an important role in limiting the effectiveness of a German counter-attack in the days and weeks following the invasion of the Second World War.

Keith Senior commented on the challenge so far: “The first few days of our Quest 14 charity cycle have been unbelievably tough. However, now on the third day, my mind is slowly, but surely coming to terms with the challenge ahead of us. We have passed through some unbelievable sites so far, none-more so than today’s Caen River. I am now looking forward to seeing Le Mans and of course the famous Pegasus Bridge. We are all looking forward to making it back to Headingley on the Sunday and what a relief and achievement it will be. The feeling of cycling into the stadium on Sunday to deliver the match-ball is something I cannot wait for, but before that we have another 600 plus miles to go. Please show your support by donating and keep up to date with the cycle on the Leeds Rhinos and Foundation websites.”

Friday will see the team arrive back in the UK and ride from Portsmouth to Leamington Spa before Saturday will see the team arrive in Headingley. The final day, Sunday 29th June, Senior and the Quest 14 team will cycle the Leeds to Harrogate route of the Tour De France, covering 134 miles where they will finish at Headingley Carnegie Stadium to deliver the matchball for the upcoming Leeds Rhinos v Catalan Dragons game, kick off 3pm.

The whole 8-day challenge takes in over 1010 miles with the percentage of the raised funds donated to three other life changing charities; Sue Ryder – Wheatfields, The Laura Crane Youth Cancer Trust and Joining Jack.

As well as giving something back to other charities, Leeds Rugby Foundation will benefit greatly from these funds as they continue to 'Change lives through Sport'.
