Leeds has a proud rugby league heritage and on Saturday 18th June Leeds Rhinos Foundation and the Leeds Rhinos Player Association will celebrate that with a reunion lunch for all those who have been involved with the game in the city.
There have been over 600 Rugby League teams in the city in the sport’s 121 year history and this lunch, which is a joint initiative between Leeds Rhinos Foundation and the Leeds Rhinos Players Association, is an opportunity to reunite players, coaches and administrators who have been involved with those teams.
Speaking about the lunch Leeds Rhinos Chief Executive Gary Hetherington said: “Through this event we hope to reunite all sections of our game, whether they have been part of a school rugby league team, a community club or even one of the city’s professional teams, Leeds, Hunslet and Bramley. Team sport is fantastic at bringing people together but often as our lives change we lose touch with those who we have played alongside and this event is a great occasion for anyone who has been connected with the game in Leeds to come together and reminisce about shared memories around our game.
“The event has been made possible due to the kind support of Chris and Sue Cooke as well as Rugby AM, who will be hosting the lunch. So if you have lost touch with someone who you played alongside or perhaps you were an administrator for a club that no longer exists and would like to catch up with some old friends, come along and enjoy what will be an enjoyable trip down memory lane.”
The lunch starts at 11am and guests will enjoy a 3 course lunch and special guests will include former coach Leeds, Dewsbury and Bramley coach Maurice Bamford.
