Tag Rugby Festival Comes to Town Next Week

The Caddick Year Five Tag Rugby Festival, in conjunction with Wetherby Bulldogs and Caddick Construction and run by Leeds Rugby Foundation, takes place on Wednesday 3rd July at 1pm at Wetherby Sports Association on Lodge Lane.

Following a four week rugby training programme with ten local schools, the festival marks the end of the coaching block and one of the schools will be awarded the Caddick Cup.

The training and resulting tournament has been arranged and executed by Leeds Rugby Foundation. The charity arm of Leeds Rugby delivers projects in the heart of the community, harnessing the power of sport to make a lasting, positive impact on individuals' lives.

Andrew Murray, managing director at Caddick Construction, said: “Caddick Construction is delighted to support the hard work of Leeds Rugby Foundation. The work the charity does is truly commendable; I hope the children have enjoyed the training and enjoy the tournament.”

The ten primary schools who received coaching from Leeds Rhinos Primary School Development Officer, Tony Aubrey are Primrose Lane, Crossley Street, Deighton Gates, St Josephs, St James, Collingham Lady Elizabeth, Bardsey, Lady Elizabeth Hastingss and Thorpe Arch Primary School.

Tony Aubrey commented: “All the hard work over the past few weeks will really pay off on Wednesday. As Leeds Rugby's charity we have an amazing opportunity to truly change lives through sport; the level of engagement and support the teams have received from the staff and children at the ten primary schools has been phenomenal. We hope this introduction of rugby league to these students will encourage them to get engaged in the sport more with their local amateur club, Wetherby Bulldogs”

“I urge friends and family of those playing in the tournament to come down to Wetherby Bulldogs, I’d also urge the local community to attend and watch the teams play too.”
