Leeds Rhinos Foundation project officer Janet Sylvester joined staff from HMP Wealstun and the West Yorkshire Police IOM 6th Hub to present a signed Leeds Rhinos shirt and fundraising money which will support the nursing team and patients from St James’s Hospital Ward 88.
The donation has been made on the back of the fundraising from the family and friends of the late Charlotte Brett, Niece of prison officer Wendy Bould at HMP Wealstun, where Leeds Rhinos Foundation’s ‘Onside’ rehabilitation programme has been delivered this year in partnership with the Prison and I.O.M 6th Hub.
After Charlotte’s passing, over £12,000 has been raised to cover funeral costs, support her three young children Lily, Leo and Thomas and through a fantastic gesture from Charlotte’s family, will now support nurses and patients on the ward which looked after her throughout her treatment at St James’s Hospital.
Ward 88 looks after patients with a range of haematological disorders taking care of up to 20 patients at a time offering around the clock patient care and through donations and through the work of the Chevin Socialites charity, help subsidise the cost of bedside TV’s, entertainment and food and drinks for inpatients.
To support this valuable work, Project Officer from Leeds Rhinos Foundation Janet Sylvester joined the nurses along with Wendy’s colleagues at HMP Wealstun Andy Nothers, Ian Cranswick and Anne Collinson from the West Yorkshire Police IOM 6th Hub to present a signed Leeds Rhinos shirt to the ward which can be raffled to raise further money towards the cause.
