Run with the Rhinos Team Completes Leeds 10K

On Sunday 15th June over 100 runners made up the Run with the Rhinos team that took part in the Leeds 10K to raise funds for Leeds Rhinos Foundation.

Once again, Lindsey Burrow led the team, having already completed the London Marathon and Rob Burrow Leeds Marathon in support of Leeds Rhinos Foundation.

Over £2000 was raised to support the charity’s mission of changing lives through the power of sport.

In its 20th anniversary year, supporters, staff and partners joined together to take on the annual run and their fundraising efforts will help Leeds Rhinos Foundation to run even more sessions for the people and communities who rely and benefit from their work.

Yorkshire based solicitors, Chadwick Lawrence, who are a partner of Leeds Rhinos Foundation, brought a 27 participants.

ENGIE Supply UK, who are the charity’s inclusive sports partner, brought seven runners.

JB Andrews, who have supported the charity at various fundraising events, once again stepped up with eight runners.

There were also a number of individual supporters who made a big effort to tackle the run and raise money.  Cath Kaye, who works at G4S and in the Headingley Lodge at AMT Headingley Stadium was the top fundraiser for the third year in a row, raising over £1000.

Leeds Rhinos legend Barrie McDermott, who has been a member of almost every Run with the Rhinos team over the last 15 years once again pulled on the running vest to support the official charity of his former club, having already completed the Rob Burrow Leeds Marathon back in May.

Declan Jenkinson, who plays for the Leeds Rhinos Learning Disability Rugby League team completed the race and got a personal best.  Declan completed his second Rob Burrow Leeds Marathon this year and next up will be taking on the York 10K in August.

Ben Berry, Partnerships and Project Manager at Leeds Rhinos Foundation said:

“We’re incredibly proud to see over 100 runners join the Run with the Rhinos team each year, creating a sea of amber as they run, jog, walk, and wheel their way around the 10K course.

“Fundraising plays a vital role in what we do as a charity, and we’re truly grateful to every supporter who helps us continue changing lives through the power of sport.

“The 10K is also a celebration of inspiring stories from across the Leeds Rhinos Foundation community. This year, one of our runners was a graduate of our Motivate programme, which supports people living with rheumatoid arthritis to lead healthier, more active lives. After completing the course, he began running again and proudly achieved his goal of finishing the 10K in under an hour. We also celebrated a member of our run club completing their first-ever 10K, and a lifelong Rhinos fan who marked their 65th birthday by taking on the challenge.”
