Over 100 fundraisers from this year’s Run/Walk with the Rhinos team took to the streets of Leeds on Sunday for the Asda Foundation Leeds 10k, joining over 7000 runners, wheelchair athletes and local celebrities for the ninth running of the popular event.
The Asda Foundation Leeds 10k, one of the most sought after events on the Yorkshire road racing calendar, saw the Leeds Rhinos Foundation once again well represented among some of the biggest charities in the country for another impressive fundraising event organised by Jane Tomlinson’s Run for All team.
The Run/Walk with the Rhinos team made up of Leeds Rhinos staff and members of the public was in full force again for the event, with over 100 runners and walkers taking on the 6.2 mile course on a perfect day in front of another great crowd lining the city centre streets.
Runners and walkers of all abilities joined Rhinos legend Barrie McDermott and Gary Hetherington to take on the course with Foundation Media Executive Dan Phillis leading the way in a team record 37 mins 10 seconds, followed by Community Manager Jonny Wainhouse in 40:57 and Director Operations Bob Bowman in 46:59.
Barrie McDermott, who joined former Leeds United star Danny Mills and Boxer Josh Warrington at the startline, finished the course in an impressive 1:02:13 with Leeds Rhinos Chief Executive Gary Hetherington finishing not far behind in 1:04:04, both showing their support to the cause which this year encouraged walkers and runners to achieve the 10k milestone.
Rhinos team runners were all invited to the Carnegie Café at Headingley Carnegie Stadium afterwards to share stories and take photos with Jamie Peacock, who greeted finishers for the post-race breakfast.
The team have been fundraising for both the Leeds Rhinos Foundation and the Jane Tomlinson Appeal in the build up to the event, raising money for both causes through sponsorship to provide valuable donations to both well-established charities to continue their well-regarded charity work across the region.
The Leeds Rhinos Foundation would like to thank everyone who took part in the Asda Foundation Leeds 10k on Sunday for all their efforts in fundraising for the event and hope to see you for future Run/Walk with the Rhinos events coming up in October with the PlusNet Yorkshire Marathon and in 2016.
