Leeds Rhinos Foundation is supporting a charity touch rugby tournament this Saturday 21 May in honour of lifelong Rhinos fan Matt Donley who sadly lost his life after a long battle with a brain tumour last year.
Matt, 32 was an avid fan of the Leeds Rhinos and followed his beloved club both home and away. A keen rugby player himself, Matt played rugby league for York Tigers, the university rugby league team at York St John between 2001 and 2004.
To help raise awareness and much needed funds for Yorkshire Brain Tumour Research, friends and family of Matt are hosting an annual ‘Doing it for Doog’s’ touch rugby tournament in partnership with York St John, the university where Matt studied Drama appearing as lead in many of the staged productions.
The inaugural tournament last year raised over £1200 and Matt was due to play however his illness took a turn for the worse meaning he missed the event. His friends though honoured Matt and turned out in their droves to support a well worthy cause and raise much needed funds to help battle this terrible illness.
The event this year will take place on Saturday 21 May in York kick off at 12.30pm. The cost is £10 per player with all proceeds going to Yorkshire Brain Tumour Research. There will also be a Silent Auction where the public can bid for the following prizes:
- Signed Leeds Rhinos Shirt (reserve £100)
