Rhinos Touch Rugby team enjoy return to action

For the first time this year, Leeds Rhinos Foundation’s Touch Rugby League team took to the field on Saturday and they enjoyed a fantastic afternoon of rugby fun against their counterparts from Wigan Warriors.

The side were launched last year in partnership with Yorkshire Thorns, who are based in Leeds and train weekly at West Park RUFC which is where this weekend’s matches took place in the glorious July sunshine.

Thanks to support from Leeds Rhinos Foundation’s Rugby League Development Officers, the Thorns have been able to establish themselves as a cross-code team and have represented the Rhinos in several RFL Touch Rugby competitions over the past 12 months with matches other clubs from across the country.

Touch RL is a minimal contact version of Rugby League and is a mixed-gender sport, with both male and female players able to play alongside each other in the same team. It is not always about competition though, with Touch Rugby seen a fantastic social option for anyone who wants to play rugby with friends or family without the intensity or dangers of the traditional full contact game.
