Players from Leeds Rhinos Women and Leeds Rhinos Wheelchair Rugby League teams are up for awards at the upcoming Leeds Sports Awards, which take place at the first direct Arena on Thursday 27th February.
Following their success in the 2019 season when they won the Super League and Challenge Cup double, Leeds Rhinos Women are up for Team Performance of the Year.
Their head coach Adam Cuthbertson is a finalist in the Coach Performance of the year and captain Courtney who was a try scorer in the Cup Final and Player of the Match in the Grand Final is up for Sportswoman of the Year.
Leeds Rhinos Wheelchair Rugby League team had another outstanding year, winning the League Leaders’ Trophy for the first time with a 118-32 victory over Halifax before going on to lift the Challenge Cup in August.
The side’s captain, and England international James Simpson is a finalist in the Sportsman Disability award. Jodie Boyd-Ward is also a finalist for Sportswoman Disability, Nathan Collins for Young Disability Sportsperson and finally their coach Josh Gardner for Coach Participation.
There is recognition for one of the Foundation’s Ambassador community clubs, with East Leeds ARLFC Under 13s up for Young Club/Team of the Year, whilst Corpus Christi have been named as a finalist in the Schools Sport category following their success in the RFL Champions Schools Year 8 competition last year.
The 17th annual Leeds Sports Awards will see Leeds’ sporting heroes, both professional and amateur, once again gather to celebrate the achievements of the city after a hugely successful 2019.
