Rhinos PDRL team to face Castleford in exhibition fixture to raise funds for injured player

Leeds Rhinos Foundation’s Physical Disability Rugby League team will take on Castleford Tigers in an exhibition fixture on Sunday 17th November at Brotherton Bulldogs, in order to help raise funds for injured Tigers player Adam Rimmington.

The two sides have developed a close relationship over the past couple of years, facing each other not only in the PDRL League, but also in special ‘one-off’ exhibition matches at both Emerald Headingley Stadium and The Jungle, showcasing the sport to thousands of rugby league supporters.

The 2:30pm fixture has been arranged to raise funds for Rimmington, who sustained a serious leg injury at the recent PDRL Finals Day- hosted by Leeds Rhinos Foundation- which has made it difficult for him to work. Rimmington, who works as a Prison Officer at a local prison, plays for Castleford as one of the able-bodied players and during a match against Warrington at Selby RUFC, dislocated his foot and broke his ankle, tibia and fibula.

Rhinos player Chris Young has been instrumental in helping to set up the fundraising fixture, explaining: “We’ve got such a great relationship with the Castleford lads including Adam, and it’s a great opportunity to show our support and help him out after his horrific injury at Finals Day.

“All of us at Rhinos are committed to make sure we raise as much as possible to help aid Adam’s recovery in a stress-free environment.

“It’s a real privilege to be involved in this fixture and show the incredible bonds and friendships that have been forged through PDRL, not only within our team but with the opposition too! Even though it’s a fundraising match, there’ll still be plenty of friendly competition between the two teams which will make it a good spectacle for the fans.”

Head Coach of Castleford PDRL, Neil Barnaby commented: “We’re buzzing that we have got this game on for Adam especially after such a severe injury, even as an able-bodied player. As a team we wanted to do something to help him out and together with Leeds Rhinos PDRL we’ve organized this match with items up for auction on the day as well to raise some funds to help him out.”

“We’re very thankful to Leeds for agreeing and wanting to participate, Tom Brindle at the RFL for getting it sanctioned and Brotherton Bulldogs for hosting it.”

Entry to this exhibition fixture will be free for all spectators, with donations strongly encouraged to help us support Adam Rimmington in his recovery.
