Leeds Rhinos players will be helping to support young people in the city every time they score at home this season thanks to a new initiative from Leeds Rhinos Foundation.
Whenever a Rhinos player crosses for a try at Headingley Carnegie Stadium, Leeds Rhinos Foundation will donate a place for a child to attend a local activity centre. 'Score to Explore' has been funded by the charity's supporters Geoff and Jill Caplan and will allow children from a disadvantaged background the opportunity to enjoy a trip of a lifetime.
Every successful kick will also count for more than just points on the board, as each one will result in a donation of a free pair of Xblades boots for a junior rugby player, whose team are playing at half time. The ‘Kicks for Boots' incentive is being supported by the charity's key partner Cover Structure, who share the charity's passion for helping develop the game at grassroots level and changing lives through sport.
Speaking about the new initiative, last year's leading Leeds Rhinos try scorer Ryan Hall said: "I think this is a brilliant idea and it's great to know that when we score tries this season we will also be giving something back and helping young people in our community. I will be hoping to play a big part in making this a success and am aiming to keep my record as our top try scorer so I contribute as much as I can!"
Davide Longo, general manager of Leeds Rhinos Foundation added: “We would like to thank the kind donations from Geoff and Jill Caplan and Cover Structure for making this possible. This will make a huge difference for local schoolchildren and we hope the Rhinos are able to repeat the success they had on the field last year so we can help as many children as possible!”
