The revamped Day to Remember initiative sponsored by Caddick Construction has already provided children from 19 schools a chance to engage with the Leeds Rhinos since the start of the 2015 season and the last home fixture against the Warrington Wolves on the 24th April saw another 270 children taking part in the match day experience, with over 100 representing Brudenell Primary School.
The Leeds Rhinos Foundation Day to Remember Initiative sponsored by Caddick Construction received some extra support from the Leeds Rhinos playing staff this week, as Liam Sutcliffe joined schools officers at Brudenell Primary School to provide some coaching and meet the pupils as part of a school day to Remember for the whole school.
As part of the initiative, schools spend a day in the hands of the Leeds Rhinos Foundation staff, receiving a morning assembly before a day of coaching in dance, multi-skills and rugby, with the offer there for children and parents to follow up their memorable school day with a chance to take part in the pitch parade at half time in a Leeds Rhinos home fixture.
On the Tuesday before the game Brudenell also received a visit from a special guest in the form of Leeds Rhinos star Liam Sutcliffe, who joined in the afternoon coaching with sports officers Dan Hardy and Emma Davis.
The school had that morning received an assembly on the importance of physical activity from their school officer Dan Hardy and met the club mascot Ronnie the Rhino before taking part in a morning and afternoon of dance, multi-skills and rugby with the added bonus of being coached by a first team player.
Liam Sutcliffe who attended the afternoon at Brudenell Primary School to help out with the sessions for reception and year 3 and 4 classes said:
“It’s always good to get down to schools and obviously the kids we have here today are very young so you don’t always want to do too much with them but the most important thing is making sure they are having plenty of fun. I remember being in high school and primary school myself and whenever a professional player came down it always brightened up your day so just to come and give something back is a pleasure to see the kids enjoying themselves.
The match day element of the day is supported by Caddick Construction who have provided funding to allow children to attend the game at a vastly reduced price of £5 per child and £5 for one additional adult, which not only allows more families the chance to attend a match but caps off a once-in-a-lifetime day to remember for the children involved.
Sutcliffe added:
“I think it’s great that they get discounted ticket as well, obviously we want to spread rugby league as far as we can, so hopefully they’ll come down to the game on Friday and really enjoy themselves and maybe get involved in an amateur cub somewhere, so a massive thanks to Caddick Construction for providing this great day.”
The initiative continues to support the Leeds Rhinos Rugby League Development plan to get more children involved in the sport of rugby league through playing and attending games and will provide continue to provide children and parents the opportunity to see the Leeds Rhinos for the rest of the season.
