A group of patients from the Leeds Teenage Cancer Trust unit visited Headingley Carnegie Stadium last week to receive a private tour of the stadium and a chance to take photos with the Rhinos first team
The visit was organised for the group by the Teenage Cancer Trust Unit and volunteer Tour Guide for the Leeds Rhinos Foundation, Paul Daly, who provided the tour of different parts of the famous Rugby and Cricket grounds at Headingley Carnegie Stadium.
The tour took the visitors on a behind the scenes look at the facilities including the changing rooms and players’ tunnel, as well as a look at some of the suites used by the international cricket players during test matches explaining the history and traditions of the historic site.
Nicky Everett, who is a Youth Support Coordinator for the Teenage Cancer Trust and arranged the tour with the Rhinos Foundation commented:
“The kids really enjoyed themselves and were really engaged with the tour. I think they were excited to see all the players, there’s a few Rhinos fans among them so they were a bit shell-shocked really and for some of the others they were able to come along and get a break from the wards, so it was good for them to get out and do something different and they enjoyed it as well.”
The Leeds Rhinos Foundation have a long term relationship with Leeds General Infirmary and took part in the annual visit to the wards during the festive season handing out presents and meeting some of the inpatients:
“The players visit at Christmas and give out presents on the unit and they are always really good and spend time with the kids and chat to them and keep them entertained so it followed up nicely from then. They’ve come to Ward 33 and also the Children’s unit and the young adult ward so it’s a good relationship with have with the Rhinos” added Nicky.
