British Olympic triathlete silver and bronze medallist, Jonny Brownlee, has sent a message of good luck to Bob Bowman, as the Leeds Rhinos Foundation’s Director of Operations gets set to run the first of 15 marathons in 15 days.
Brownlee, who became a Vice President of the charity in 2016, is the 2012 Triathlon World Champion and the two-time World Sprint Triathlon Champion. Between May 2010 and July 2014, he finished every race he competed in on the podium, totalling an incredible 42 triathlons in a row.
The athlete, who is set to compete in his first race of 2017 this Saturday in the WTS Yokohama, took time out of his schedule to send his best wishes to Bowman.
“Very best of luck! It's amazing that you are attempting such a challenge; one marathon is hard enough so 15 on the bounce will be an incredible achievement,” said Brownlee. “When you are having to dig deep, remember what a great cause you are doing it for, and finishing at Headingley Carnegie will be special."
Initially, Bowman will join fellow fundraisers taking on the Brathay 10 in 10 running event, that involves runners completing 10 marathons over 10 consecutive days around England's longest lake, Windermere. Although the 10 in 10 has been described as the 'UK's ultimate endurance running event', Bowman has decided to test his stamina even further and will keep on his running shoes for another five days to complete an additional five marathons.
Bowman is aiming to raise £25,000 for Leeds Rhinos Foundation and to finish in front of a huge crowd at Headingley Carnegie Stadium ahead of the Leeds Rhinos' fixture against Warrington Wolves. He will be warmly welcomed by the Rhinos squad who have given their backing for the heroic challenge.
