North v South Challenge double header fixture announced

North Leeds were the winners

Following the success of last year’s North vs South U13 challenge, Leeds Rugby Foundation have now enhanced the project by giving U14’s the chance to express their skills on the famous turf at Headingley Carnegie Stadium.

The double header will give these players in the city a fantastic opportunity to play on a pitch which has been graced by so many stars from Leeds clubs such as Ryan Bailey, Jamie Jones-Buchanan and Danny McGuire.

This year’s encounter will take place on Thursday 3rd July with the U13’s (Year 8) kicking off at 5.30pm before the U14’s (Year 9) kick off at 7pm with teams in both age-groups competing for the Pims Trophy. The kits for both team's have been kindly donated by the Garry Chappelow Memorial Fund.

Entry through the main-gate (entrance B) is priced at £2 for adults and £1 for U16's. Parking is available on the night in car-park F.

The game will feature the most promising young stars currently participating in school and club rugby across the city. The teams representing the age old rivalry of the North Leeds/South Leeds divide in relation to the River Aire.

The South Leeds side will be representing the Hunslet colours of Myrtle, Flame and White, whilst the North Leeds side will be donning the Rhinos Blue and Amber.

Both trials took place earlier this month showing off an abundance of talent giving selectors a real headache when making the first round of selections.

The successful trialists will also wear their school or club shorts and socks "barbarian" style in order to show pride for their school and club.

Finalised squads will be announced shortly. Stay tuned for details.
