Leeds Rhinos Foundation’s Rugby League Development team continued their support of the Rugby League European Federation last week by coaching members of the RLEF and a selection of welsh students through their Level 2 coaching qualification.
Leeds Rhinos legend Chev Walker, who now works with Leeds Rhinos’ charity as part of the Rugby League Development team joined Rugby League Development Manager Leon Crick to deliver the course in Cardiff as part of an ongoing partnership with the Rugby League European Federation to improve coaching standards across Europe.
The qualified coaches will now go on to adopt the successful model currently adopted by many of Super League’s charity foundations to deliver Rugby League coaching in local schools as part of RL Wales new objectives.
The Rugby League European Federation launched a ground-breaking project in March 2016 to overhaul and improve rugby league technical dissemination across Europe with St Helens supporting the match officials programme and Leeds Rhinos delivering coach education.
Leon Crick said:
“Our visit to Wales was the latest example of us working with the RLEF to provide access to high quality coaching resources and the development of more coach educators in Wales. The coaches we have worked with now have the tools to improve the standards in Wales working with other coaches and young players starting out in the game."
Leeds Rhinos Foundation hosted 24 coaches at Leeds Rugby Academy last year from a range of European member nations providing coaching resources, videos, coaching manuals and qualifications.
The Foundation now have future plans for key European coaches to visit Leeds again in 2018 to spend time with the club and charity’s performance and community departments to get a first-hand view on how a pro team and foundation work to spread the knowledge throughout Europe.
