Leeds Rhinos fan Lee Hebbron has had plenty to celebrate over the last year after overcoming Cancer and becoming a father and he is now using these as inspiration to get fit and take on this year’s Asda Foundation Leeds 10K as part of the Run with the Rhinos team.
In 2014 Lee was given the all clear from Lymphoma Cancer, after battling the disease for a year and following this news he found out his partner Nicola was expecting their first child. Their son Hayden was born in April and Lee says this has now motivated him to get active and sign of up for the Leeds 10K.
“I’ve always wanted to take part in the run and I recently became a father and saw this as the perfect incentive to get fit,” said Lee. “I was diagnosed with Lymphoma in 2013 and I have had a number of other health problems, but I am proud to say that I am now Cancer free and I am extremely grateful to be able to have the chance to take part in this run.
“I have been a lifelong Rhinos fan and their charity Leeds Rhinos Foundation means a lot to me. The work they do in my local community, working with children in schools and encouraging healthy and positive lifestyles is so important and if I am able to help them deliver this work by completing this run then I am more than happy to do this. My family will all be coming out to support me and it will be great to see them along the route cheering me on.”
Lee, who has supported the Rhinos for 39 years is aiming to beat Barrie McDermott’s personal best when he competes in the run on 12th July and he has already begun preparing.
“To be part of the Run with the Rhinos team is great motivation and to say I have been in a team with Jamie Peacock is something I have always wanted to say! I will be aiming to keep up with him and Barrie McDermott and I have set myself a challenge of beating his best time,” added Lee.
“It’s not the first time I have done something like this, in 2002 I completed the London marathon and the buzz after finishing it was incredible, despite barely being able to walk! I am really looking forward to taking part in this year’s Asda Foundation 10K and feeling that sense of achievement when I’ve completed it.
“My training has already started and I’ve been cycling 120K a week and am building up to do 10k every two days. My fundraising has already started too and I have so far raised £305 but would like to get more. I work on a match day selling programmes for the club so if you would like to sponsor me look out for me at one of the games.”
