Leeds Rhinos Foundation and People in Action are bringing men with learning disabilities together to talk about their health, wellbeing and relationships with an exciting new programme at Headingley Carnegie Stadium.
The new 12-week Men’s Health Education programme funded by Leeds City Council is part of People in Action’s current health and wellbeing Programme. This programme is designed to provide access to learning that enables adults with a learning disability to live more independently with greater choice and control.
Taking place on site at the Headingley Carnegie Stadium, attendees will gain a better understanding of the body, what good health is, as well as take part in sessions around balanced diets, accessing leisure activities and learning about healthy/safe relationships.
People in Action Service Manager Nigel Wood commented on the new partnership:
"People in Action offer a range of courses and groups around the city and the latest one Positive Pulse is a really exciting development!
"Our partnership with the Leeds Rhinos Foundation is such a fantastic opportunity for People in Action’s male customers to learn about their health in an awesome and inspiring venue.
"Our specialist staff have been massively impressed with the support and input provided by the Leeds Rhinos Foundation team and we look forward to the partnership growing and developing future courses across Leeds."
Leeds Rhinos Foundation Health Improvement Officer Stephen Turrell added:
“We are delighted to announce this new partnership with People in Action which links perfectly with our current strategy to better educate the community on health and wellbeing.
“As a leading sports organisation based in heart of the Leeds community, we have a duty to connect with people of all backgrounds and abilities across the city and offer new and high quality provision to improve people’s lives and this programme will be able to further that commitment.”
This course runs on Monday daytimes in Leeds. The sessions run between 11.00am and 13.00pm in a 12-week programme, 48 weeks a year. Each session is free to attend.
