15 more young people aged 16-25 registered as not in education, employment or training (NEET) completed the Leeds Rhinos Foundation’s ‘Off The Bench’ personal development programme in August sponsored by the Asda Foundation
The personal development programme is one of four strands delivered by the Leeds Rhinos Foundation under the charity’s ‘Off the Bench’ delivery that supports young people through some of the common barriers associated with being outside of training and employment.
Running out of the TryZone Education Centre at Headingley Carnegie Stadium and off site at venues across the city such as Herd Farm and Leeds Sailing and Activity Centre, the personal development programme focuses on areas such as problem solving, overcoming barriers, relationships, communication, alongside a variety of physical activities both indoor and outdoor to promote team-work and leadership skills.
The latest group of young people ranging from 14-25 have enjoyed a range of activities over the past 6 weeks, including everything from water sports to Yoga all designed to increase motivation, resilience and build confidence and self-esteem.
Here is a look at what the groups got up to over the six weeks on Leeds Rhinos Foundation social media –

Project Tutor at TryZone Janet Sylvester commented on completing another programme:
“It’s been another fantastic six weeks with our young learners working through our personal development programme. The group have all really developed over the six-week period engaging with the activities and visibly growing in confidence.
“This particular block of sessions is just one part of the delivery on offer that the groups can get involved in thanks to our funding from the Asda Foundation, so hopefully some of the group can get also benefit from some of our future programmes as well.
“If their experiences on the course gives them some of the skills and the confidence and motivation to get back on the journey to formal skills training or employment going forward then it’s all been worthwhile, they have all got lots of potential and plenty of intrinsic qualities, so hopefully this will be a positive stepping stone for all of them."
