Former Rhinos boss, Brian McClennan, will be the guest of honour at a special celebration dinner on Wednesday 21st October at Leeds Town Hall as the city welcomes the touring New Zealand team ahead of their game against Leeds Rhinos.
The black tie event, will be hosted in partnership with Leeds City Council to provide a Civic welcome to the New Zealanders and also to mark the tenth anniversary of the formation of the Leeds Rhinos Foundation.
McClennan, who won back to back Grand Finals with the Rhinos during his time at Headingley Carnegie, will be joined by current New Zealand coach Stephen Kearney and businessman, fundraiser and rugby league supporter Sir Peter Leitch, affectionately known as ‘The Mad Butcher’.
Before joining the Rhinos McClennan had enjoyed success as coach of the New Zealand national team, leading them to victory in the 2005 Tri Nations at Elland Road, and he said he is honoured to have been invited back to Leeds for this special occasion.
Speaking from New Zealand, he said, “This is a fantastic opportunity for me to come over and watch my two favourite teams. Both teams are currently at the top of their games and the game at Headingley Carnegie will be a special occasion.
“For the Rhinos it will be a chance to say goodbye to some of Leeds’ greatest ever players. I am sure they will be well supported.
“For the Kiwis it will be continuing on their journey of being the Greatest Kiwi side ever. I think it is a masterstroke getting this game on at Headingley and this is seriously a game not to be missed,” added McClennan.
