Leeds Rugby Foundation (LRF) will join forces with A. Taylor & Son to celebrate the Hunslet based companies 150th anniversary later this month.
A. Taylor & Son recently came aboard as the official sponsor of the Leeds Rugby Foundation’s 150 year celebrations of rugby in Leeds.
On the 20th March 1864, at 6.30am – following an advert placed in the 'Leeds Mercury' by railway clerk Henry Jenkinson – 'hundreds' of people turned up on the Moor to begin an association with the sport that has been at the heart of Leeds ever since.
Indeed, the greatest sporting event in the city remains the 1938 Rugby League Championship final when Hunslet beat Leeds in front of over 54,000 fans at Elland Road.
With that in mind, LRF are spending the year of 2014 celebrating the 150th year anniversary of such a historic event in the city.
A. Taylor & Son were also founded 150 years ago so it seems only fitting that the title sponsor celebrate their birth too.
The event which takes place on Thursday 19th June at John Charles Stadium will see a champagne breakfast take place.
Not only will this event celebrate A. Taylor & Son’s anniversary, but it will also signify the first rugby game to be played in Leeds in 1864 and the city’s biggest ever sporting event – the 1938 Championship Final at Elland Road between Hunslet and Leeds.
