Leeds Schools ready to take on nation’s best in the RFL Champions Schools Competition

Crawshaw Academy year 7 and 8's have been preparing for the tournament with help from West Leeds Development Officer Callum Tolson

Leeds Schools representing the city in the RFL Champions Schools have been decided over the past month with the top 5 schools from each year group now awaiting the first round draw from the RFL to be played after the school holidays against schools from Yorkshire.

The Leeds teams will continue to be supported by the Leeds Rhinos Foundation following the completion of the Leeds qualifiers organised by the charity since September, which has seen teams from all corners of the city playoff for the chance to represent the Leeds area in the regional knockout stages.

In the year 7’s competition, perennial powerhouses Corpus Christi Catholic College led the way as top qualifier with Brigshaw High School, Farnley Academy, Crawshaw Academy and Leeds West Academy also qualifying to take on teams from across Yorkshire.

In the year 8’s competition Brigshaw finished top with Corpus Christi a close second for a familiar looking top two and are joined by Crawshaw Academy, Temple Moor and Woodkirk Academy.

Year 9 action saw Corpus lead the way as top qualifier along with Corpus Christi Catholic, Crawshaw Academy, Temple Moor, Brighsaw School and Abbey Grange Academy with the year 10 qualifiers including Corpus Christi and Brigshaw School again as top two with Cardinal Heenan and Woodkirk Academy.

Finally, in the year 11 competition, Corpus Christi and Bruntcliffe Academy will represent Leeds in the regional stages.

Again for 2016/17, the year 7 Boys teams have also been invited to a coaching workshop with Leeds Rhinos Foundation at Leeds Rugby Academy on 2nd November to further prepare for the competition.

Some of the Leeds Rhinos Foundation coaches have been taking to Social Media to show the progress of the schools receiving coaching in lunchtime and after school clubs as well as during curriculum time.
